Introduction

There was a man called Kafei who was deeply in love with a woman called Anju. They got engaged. Anju owned the Moon's Mask, which, combined with the Sun's Mask, creates the Couple's Mask. A few days before the wedding, a demon, wearing a mask, cast a spell on Kafei to transform him into a child. On the way home, Kafei realized that the Sun's Mask had been stolen. Ashamed of his aspect, he hid under the Keaton Mask and decided to shut himself away in his house. Anju went back to the inn and began to wonder about her fiancé.

This is when the Bomber's Notebook shows its importance. If you want to own the ultimate mask, you need to get the Couple's Mask first. Moreover, the end credits will be shortened if you don't complete this sidequest.

This quest begins at 6 am on the first day and ends at 5 am on the 3rd day. To reunite Anju and Kafei, you need:

Epona, or, better still, Owl Statues activated in Clock Town and in Ikana Valley
the Garo's Mask
the Hookshot
N64: the Stone Mask (If you don't have it, you can get it during the quest)
optionally, Romani's Mask (If you don't have it, you can get it during the quest as well, but I haven't noted it here)

visit Madame Aroma, the mayor's wife First day, 6am
You can see Kafei putting a letter in the mailbox near the Laundry Pool in South Clock Town.

First day, from 10 am
Go to the Mayor's Residence to the north of East Clock Town. Talk to the receptionist, then open the right door and talk to Madame Aroma. When you accept to meet her son Kafei, she will give you Kafei's Mask and will be added to the notebook. Open the right door, walk behind the curtain and read the book to find out that Kafei and Anju have a date. Go outside, wear Kafei's Mask, question one of the Bombers and remove your mask.

Wear the mask so Anju gives you an appointment First Day, at 1.30 pm
N64: Be at the Stock Pot Inn (same neighbourhood), talk to Anju, the receptionist, at 2 pm (not before!).
3DS: Be at the Stock Pot Inn (same neighbourhood), by 1.50 pm, wear the Goron Mask, talk to Anju and tell her you have a reservation. You must not talk to her before with or without your mask!
She informs you that your room is located on the 2nd floor, gives you the Room Key and is added to the Notebook. (It's okay if you've missed that step.) At 2 pm, the postman arrives and delivers a letter to her. After his departure, wear Kafei's Mask and talk to Anju again. She will ask you to meet her at 11.30 pm in the kitchen. Meanwhile, you can get optional items, like Pieces of Heart, if you want. Use the key to enter the 2nd room on the 2nd floor and to find 100 rupees in a chest.

First day, around midnight
Go in the kitchen. If you don't have the key, use the Deku flower to fly up to the roof and to take the 2nd floor door. Start a conversation with Anju. She will tell you that she has received a letter from Kafei. After that, she will give you Kafei's Letter so that you can meet him. Post the letter in a mailbox before the dawn of the second day. Then, have a walk or play the Song of Double Time.
Above all, don't stop the thief in North Clock Town, otherwise you will not be able to complete this quest!

Kafei accepts to talk to you Second day, around 2 pm
Go to the Laundry Pool in Clock Town. At 3 pm, the postman arrives and delivers the letter to Kafei. Open the door where Kafei left, get in and talk to him when he comes back. He recognizes you and asks you if you can keep a secret. Then he tells you he has been turned into a child by a strange imp wearing a mask, and that his Wedding Ceremony Mask has been stolen from him in North Clock Town. Kafei entrusts you the Pendant of Memories to take it to Anju. Talk to him again, climb the box, and take a look at the Curiosity Shop, located in West Clock Town.

Second day, around 5 pm
Go back to the Stock Pot Inn, talk to Anju and give her the pendant.
N64: If you don't have the Stone Mask, you can buy a red potion worth 30 rupees at the Trading Post in West Clock Town. Get out of the town, call Epona and gallop eastwards. Jump over the fences, then look for a circle of stones to the right. Dismount from your horse and use the Lens of Truth to find a lost soldier. Talk to him and give him the potion. In exchange, he will give you the Stone Mask and Shiro will be registered in the notebook. Go back to Clock Town.
3DS: On 3DS, it's more complicated, but you are less likely to need it. It's located in the Pirates' Fortress.

*** The hour of the next step is not the same on n64 and 3DS. It's much easier on 3DS. ***

The curiosity shop's owner is a friend of Kafei Third day, 1 pm
Go to Kafei's hiding place. Talk to the man from the curiosity shop, who has a mail from Kafei. He gives you the Keaton Mask that used to belong to Kafei, as well as a Special Delivery to Mama. It must be delivered quickly. Then he talks to you about one of his regular customers: a thief called Sakon who lives in Ikana Valley and who has been in his shop the night before.

From now on, you can either bring this letter, or leave for Ikana Valley. If you don't deliver the letter, you will have to do all the above actions again (the ones marked with a grey exclamation mark in the notebook) to get a new one and thus get a new mask or a bottle, but it's not mandatory. If you want to deliver the letter but you don't have Romani's Mask, you might arrive too late at Sakon's Hideout (you need to arrive at 7 pm, at the south-east of Ikana Valley).

I want to deliver the letter, I activated the Statue in Ikana Valley and own Romani's Mask:
Go in front of the Milk Bar in East Clock Town a little before 6 pm and play the Inverted Song of Time. At 6 pm, enter the Milk Bar and talk to Madame Aroma. Wear Kafei's Mask, give her the letter and she will reward you with a bottle of Chateau Romani. Leave the bar, soar to Ikana Valley, jump into the river, climb onto the banks and wear the Stone Mask, in case you encounter Sakon. Run eastwards through the tunnel, then go behind the two big rocks. Kafei is hiding there. Remove your mask and talk to him. Stay with him. At 7 pm, the door of Sakon's hideout opens. Kafei is heading to the hideout, follow him.
(You can also go directly to the hideout, then after getting the Sun's Mask, go to the Milk Bar and give the letter to Madame Aroma.)
I want to deliver the letter, I activated the Statue in Ikana Valley, but I don't have Romani's Mask :
Go in front of the Post Office in West Clock Town a little before 6 pm and play the Inverted Song of Time. At 6 pm, enter the Post Office, and deliver the letter. Teleport yourself in Ikana Valley, jump into the river, climb onto the banks and run leftwards (eastern part on the map), walk through the tunnel and enter Sakon's Hideout (the door opens at 7 pm).
(After getting the Sun's Mask, go back to the Milk Bar and talk to the postman when he comes out. He'll give you his Postman's Hat.)
I want to deliver the letter, I have not activated the Statue in Ikana Valley, but I have Romani's Mask - risky:
Go in front of the Milk Bar a little before 6 pm and play the Inverted Song of Time. At 6 pm, enter the Milk Bar with Romani's Mask, then wear Kafei's Mask and talk to Madame Aroma at the bar. Give her the Special Delivery to Mama and she will give you a bottle of Chateau Romani. Quickly come out of the bar, put on Garo's Mask, leave the town and call Epona. Gallop eastwards, jump over the fences, then still riding your horse, look for a man wearing a purple cloak near the path leading to the east. After talking to you, shoot the Hookshot at the branch he made appear, put on the Bunny Hood and keep on following the path to its end. In the valley, wear the Stone Mask in case you would encounter Sakon, and turn right, cross the tunnel and go ahead. If the door of Sakon's Hideout is already open, get in, otherwise stand behind the two rocks, remove your mask and talk to Kafei. Stay with him and follow him as soon as he runs to the hideout.
(You can also go directly to the hideout, then after getting the Sun's Mask, come back to the Milk Bar and give the letter to Madame Aroma.)
I will deliver the letter another time:
a) with Epona, leave the town, put on Garo's Mask, call Epona and gallop eastwards. Jump over the fences, then look for a man wearing a cloak close to the path leading to the east. After talking to him, shoot the Hookshot at the branch he made appear, remove your mask and follow the path to its end. In the valley, wear the Stone Mask in case you would encounter Sakon, turn right, cross the tunnel, and go ahead. If the door of Sakon's hideout is already open, get in quickly, otherwise stand behing the two rocks, remove your mask and talk to Kafei. Stay with him, and follow him as soon as he runs to the hideout.
b) after activating the Statue in Ikana Valley (easy), soar to Ikana Valley. Jump into the river, climb onto the bank and put on the Stone's Mask in case you would encounter Sakon. Turn left (eastern part on the map), cross the tunnel and go behind the two rocks. This is where Kafei is hiding. Remove your mask and talk to him. The door of Sakon's Hideout will open at 7 pm. Follow Kafei as soon as he walks to the door.

Third Day, from 6 am
Go to Kafei's hiding place. Talk to the man from the Curiosity Shop, who has a mail from him. He gives you the Keaton Mask that used to belong to Kafei, as well as a Special Delivery to Mama. It must be delivered quickly. Then he talks to you about one of his regular customers: a thief called Sakon who lives in Ikana Valley and who has been in his shop the night before.

From now on, you can either bring this letter or leave for Ikana Valley. If you don't deliver the letter, you will have to do all the actions above to get a new one and thus get a new mask or a bottle, but it's not mandatory.

I want to deliver the letter and own Romani's Mask:
Go to the Milk Bar in East Clock Town. At 10 am, wear Romani's Mask, get in and talk to Madame Aroma. Put on Kafei's Mask, give her the letter and and she will give you a bottle of Chateau Romani. Leave the bar.
I want to deliver the letter, but I don't own Romani's Mask:
Go to the Post Office in West Clock Town. When his delivery round is completed at noon, get inside. Talk to him on his bed and give him the Special Delivery, so that he goes to the Milk Bar. As soon as he gets out of the bar, at 2 pm, talk to him again. He tells you that Madame Aroma ordered him to escape and gives you his Postman's Hat.
You can give up delivering the letter as well.

Then, you have two options:

I activated the Statue in Ikana Valley:
Soar to Ikana Valley, jump into the river, climb onto the bank and put on the Stone's Mask in case you would encounter Sakon. (He will be here at around 6 pm.) Run eastwards, cross the tunnel and go behind the two rocks. This is where Kafei is hiding. Remove your mask and talk to him. Stay with him. The door of Sakon's Hideout will open at 7 pm. Follow Kafei as soon as he walks to the door.
I have not activated the Statue in Ikana Valley:
If it's already 3 pm, play the Inverted Song of Time, for greater safety. Put on Garo's Mask and call Epona. Gallop eastwards, jump over the fences, then look for a man wearing a purple cloak near the path leading to the east. After talking to you, shoot the Hookshot at the branch he made appear, put on the Bunny Hood and keep on following the path to its end. In the valley, wear the Stone's Mask in case you would encounter Sakon (he will be here at around 6 pm), turn right, cross the tunnel to the far east and go behind the two rocks. This is where Kafei is hiding, remove your mask and talk to him. Stay with him. The door of Sakon's Hideout will open at 7 pm. Follow Kafei as soon as he walks to the door.

Continuation for N64 and 3DS

Kafei deals with the puzzles and Link fights Third day, 7 pm
Open the door. From now on, Kafei is teaming up with you, you will play the roles of both Link and Kafei. In the hideout, walk on the blue slabs to unlock the doors, on the yellow slabs to slow the conveyor belt, however, DO NOT walk on the red slabs that would accelerate the conveyor belt. Kafei will see his Sun's Mask and switch on the security system. Then, the mask is taken away on the conveyor belt. You have to be fast, otherwise the mask will fall into a hole.
Link: walk on the blue slab.
Kafei: Go into the next room, push the left block on the blue slab.
Link: Enter the room and slash the plant.
Kafei: Open the door, walk around the red slabs, step on one or two yellow slabs, and step on the blue slab.
Link: Get in and clear out the two plants.
Kafei: Get in the next room, push the leftmost block downwards, step on the yellow slab, pull the central block on this slab, push the block located centre-down (on the blue slab).
Link: Get in and fight the wolf.
Kafei: Push the block that is in front of the door to go ahead, then, in the following room, step on the blue slab.
Link: Get in and step on the blue slab so that Kafei can get the Sun's Mask back! After that, Kafei will run away.

The fiancés are finally together! Third day, midnight
Soar to Clock Town and play the Inverted Song of Time again, if you did it before, to bring the time back to normal. If you delivered the letter to the postman but didn't follow him in the Milk Bar, you have to go there now. This is where he should be. Talk to him, he will give you the Postman's Hat. Go to the inn, get in the room that is restricted to employees (1st door of the 2nd floor) and wait for Kafei and Anju. At around 4.30 am, Kafei will arrive to join his fiancée. They fall into each other's arms, exchange their mask and become a couple. As a witness you will get the Couple's Mask! Congratulations!

Play the Song of Time to warp back to the dawn of the first day. At 10 am, go to the mayor's residence, get into the room on your left, talk to the guards, then wear the Couple's Mask and talk to the mayor so that he rewards you with a Piece of Heart. If you own the Postman's Hat, wear it and look into a mailbox to find another Piece of Heart.
